Exhibition gives UIS men's soccer team hope for rebound

The University of Illinois Springfield Prairie Stars men’s soccer team is looking to build on an encouraging exhibition match against NCAA Division I opponent Evansville.

UIS held its own in the first half before falling behind 1-0 at halftime on the way to a 4-0 loss two weeks ago.

“Coach said he was surprised to see us take it to Evansville the first 25 minutes or so,” UIS sophomore midfielder Mike Brydl said. “We had good possession compared to last year. Last year, we didn’t really have possession.”

Said midfielder Nikita Fadeev, “We held the ball 75 percent of the time. We didn’t lose the ball much, but when we did they scored on us in the last 10 minutes.”
