The University of Illinois Springfield made its Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Championship Tournament debut in 2014 and is returning to postseason play after a one-year absence.
“One thing that gives us a lot of confidence with our players is we’ve basically beat everybody in it,” UIS coach Chris Ramirez said. “Of the seven opponents, we’ve beaten five of them already.”
The only team in the field that UIS has lost to is nationally-ranked Quincy and the Prairie Stars have not played William Jewell.
UIS is 1-2 this season against its first-round opponent Missouri S&T. The Stars (28-21) play Missouri S&T (34-15) at 3 p.m. eastern time today in the double-elimination, eight-team tournament at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana.
