UIS baseball team splits with Indianapolis

Gabriel Acevedo hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the University of Illinois Springfield a 6-5 win over No. 18 Indianapolis in the first game of a Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball doubleheader Friday.

Indianapolis rebounded with a 13-1 win in the second game.

UIS held a 5-0 lead through six innings in the first game. Indianapolis scored twice in seventh, then tied the game at 5-all with a three-run top of the ninth.

In the bottom of the ninth, UIS’ Adam Warda hit a single, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. He scored on Acevedo’s hit to center field.
