Washington High graduate Talon Supak on Sunday night was named the Male Athlete of the Year at the University of Illinois Springfield for the second year in a row. And that latest honor came three days before the junior men’s golfer made school history.
Supak won the NCAA Midwest Super Regional on Wednesday to become the first athlete or team in UIS history to advance past super regional play. Supak earned a bid to the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championships, which run May 17-21 in Denver.
Including a windy final day in Allendale, Mich., Supak shot a 54-hole total of 5-over-par 218 to win medalist honors by one stroke over Zach James of Southeastern Oklahoma State. The regional was made up of 20 teams and eight individuals.
The win was reported by the Peoria Journal Star on May 5, 2016.
